PICHIAVO - CUPID AND PSYCHE DIASPASIS A

PichiAvo's work Cupid and Psyche Diaspasis A is a unique piece made with spray paint, acrylic, and oil on plasterboard in 2023. 

The work is part of the Diaspasis series, in Greek separation; these works evoke fragments of a wall on which one or more subjects were depicted, of which only the remains can now be seen. In this fragment it is possible to recognize from the wings the god of love Cupid, intent on encircling another figure. 

Cupid and Psyche Diaspasis A was part of a larger plasterboard panel, painted and then broken by the artists, creating two independent works. 

The other figure beside embracing Cupid, Psyche, is in fact present in the work Cupid and Psyche Diaspasis B. The works refer to the famous Greek myth of Cupid and Psyche. 

Cupid and Psyche Diaspasis A was executed by the PichiAvo artists with an innovative technique, called precisely Diaspasis, which is between painting and sculpture. The artists, world-famous for their murals, bring the materiality of outdoor works inside the gallery with their Diaspasis series, painting figures and details on plasterboard boards that are then broken up, leaving the corners uneven. The effect these works restore is that of archaeological finds, fragments of a single design found and again separated in the halls of distant museums.

For the subjects of their artworks PichiAvo are inspired by Greek and Roman statues that they have seen and photographed during their travels around the world. These sculptures are reinterpreted and redrawn through their iconic style that combines classical art and graffiti, with tags in the background and bright, intense colors. In this work the palette is in shades of blue, pink and red. 

Cupid and Psyche Diaspasis A measures 95 x 100 cm and weighs 10 kg.
