Wunderkammern is the leading Street Art gallery in Italy, a reference point for the movement since its opening in 2008 in Rome in the Torpignattara district.
Wunderkammern gallery was founded by Franco Ottavianelli, Afra Zucchi and Giuseppe Ottavianelli and aims to promote an international programme of excellence for contemporary research in its different forms and languages. The gallery represents emerging, mid-career and established artists whose work has a strong relationship with urban space and the public.
Wunderkammern's activity at its Roman premises in Via Gabrio Serbelloni 124 makes clear the gallery's strong interest in approaching the most underground artistic realities. In just a few years, in fact, it gained the trust of the area thanks to a plan that combines exhibitions with mural interventions in the neighbourhood by the most famous street artists. Gallery known internationally, Wunderkammern represents artists such as Shepard Fairey, Blek le Rat, JonOne, Miaz Brothers, Sten Lex and 2501.
The gallery and the artists it collaborates with explore themes of wonder, paradox, the connection between inside and outside, the conventional and the unconventional, the private and the public sphere. All themes that also inspired the wunderkammern – chambers of wonder – collections of scientific curiosities and extraordinary objects collected in Europe since the Renaissance by kings, nobles and merchants.
Wunderkammern takes part in important national and international fairs and carries out numerous projects in collaboration with cultural institutions, public bodies and museums (GAM – Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Roma, MACRO, Casa Museo Francesco Messina, MMOMA – Moscow Museum of Modern Art) in order to promote the work of artists in the art world and inspire its collectors.
Motivated by great enthusiasm and guided by three values that characterise its activity: artistic research, professionalism and the art market, in 2016 Wunderkammern opened a second location in the centre of Milan in via Nerino 2 and in 2022 it announced the opening of a new location in the heart of Rome's historical centre in via Giulia 180.
Since 2020 the gallery has been part of the Deodato Group, which includes Deodato Arte, Deodato.Tech and Love Spot Galleries. Wunderkammern is also a member of the National Association of Modern and Contemporary Art Galleries, ANGAM.
