Gonzalo Borondo, born in Valladolid in 1989, is a Spanish multimedia artist who lives and works between Spain and Italy.
His art, which embraces figurative painting and installations, stands out for its ability to engage in a profound dialogue with the physical and psychological contexts in which he works.
Raised in Segovia, Borondo moved to Madrid in 2003, where he began experimenting with different artistic techniques in public space.
The street becomes a privileged place of expression and communication for him, maintaining a strong link with the urban environment and its inhabitants.
His art stems from a dialogue with the surrounding context, a continuous exchange with the memories of the place and the perceptions of its space, both physical and symbolic.
The underlying aim of his artistic experimentation is to extend the possibilities of painting to other disciplines (theatre, video art), media (glass, straw, walls, ceramics, wood...) and multiple aesthetic techniques (stone engraving, silk-screen printing).
Borondo has participated in numerous international festivals and projects, making public interventions all over the world.
In 2015, he inaugurated ‘Animal’, a solo exhibition in London that represents a moment of sharing the research implemented until then. His most recent projects include ‘Insurrecta’ (Segovia, 2020), ‘Merci’ (Bordeaux, 2019), ‘Sacrilege’ (Marseille, 2018), ‘Matière Noire’ (Marseille, 2017) and ‘Non-Plus Ultra’ (Rome, 2018).
Gonzalo Borondo continues to be a central figure in contemporary art, with an ever-evolving career that leads him to explore new languages and forms of expression.
