HOGRE - SUPERMARKETS H24

Supermarkets H24 by Hogre, a Roman street artist whose identity is not known, is a work created with stencils on board in 2020.

Among the different types of subjects depicted on a black background, the lobster claw, the dinosaur and the fly represent constants in his artwork. In fact, since the early 2000s, Hogre has usually identified himself in urban space with the drawing of a fly; in Supermarkets h24, he has depicted a large one in the bottom right-hand corner and a smaller one just above it.

Through various elements in the composition - the statement 'buy new soul', the inscription 'supermarkets h24' and the word 'suicide' written with Barbie's graphics - the artist Hogre openly criticises the capitalism typical of our time. A striking example is the face of Father Christmas, a character of the Christmas season in which consumerism is soaring.

The street artist Hogre also uses the title 'Supermarkets h24' to denounce the low wages and precarious conditions in which employees of 24-hour shops work.

Hogre is internationally renowned for his unauthorised interventions in urban space in which he uses subvertising - a combination of the English terms subvert and advertising - a practice that consists of the creative vandalisation of advertising posters.

This work measuring 75 x 96 cm is signed in original by the artist.
