HOGRE - THE KING IS NAKED

The unique work The King is Naked by artist Hogre is a stencil on paper made in 2011.

Street artist Hogre depicts in black and white tones a sovereign wearing an inverted golden crown that covers his eyes, alluding to his being blinded by power. As the title suggests, the artist refers to Hans Christian Andersen's Danish fairy tale "The Emperor's New Clothes", which tells the story of a vain king who is willing to do anything - even believe that swindlers dress him in a very precious silk, which in reality does not exist - in order to appear powerful, rich and aesthetically beautiful.

In this 50 x 70 cm work, as in most of his works, Hogre criticism indirectly criticises the capitalism and consumerism that characterise contemporary society.

The work is signed in original by the artist with his moniker Hogre.
