SHEPARD FAIREY – DANGER NO SMOKING

Shepard Fairey's silkscreen on wood panel Danger No Smoking belongs to a limited edition of 6, and is also numbered and signed in original by the artist.

This work depicts a petrol pump and is inspired by a work the artist Obey made in 1990: his first creation related to the environmental and health risks that fossil fuels can cause.

"I took this photograph in Providence at the edge of a desolate cemetery, which probably intensified my interpretation of the peeling paint on the gas pump as a skull." (Obey)

Thus, in Danger No Smoking, as in most of his works, Shepard Fairey addresses a theme of social and environmental emergencies, attempting to generate critical reflection in the viewer.

In the serigraphy, different shades of blue alternate with white to create a chiaroscuro effect. Numerous floral patterns - often found in his artistic production - instead populate the background, while the artist inserts his iconic trademark - the face of André the Giant inscribed in a star - in the lower left-hand corner.
