SHEPARD FAIREY – DANGER NO SMOKING

The work Danger No Smoking by Shepard Fairey (Obey) consists of a silkscreen print on aluminium, which belongs to an edition of 3, numbered and signed by the artist in the original.

Artist Shepard Fairey depicts a petrol pump in this work, referring to his earlier work related to the environmental and health risks that the use of fossil fuels can cause.

"I took this photograph in Providence at the edge of a desolate cemetery, which probably intensified my interpretation of the peeling paint on the gas pump as a skull." (Obey)

Thus, in Danger No Smoking, as in all his works, Shepard Fairey addresses issues related to social and environmental emergencies, aiming to stimulate critical reflection in the viewer.

In the serigraphy, different shades of grey alternate to create a chiaroscuro effect. The background is dotted with numerous floral patterns - characteristic of his artistic language - while the iconic face of André the Giant inscribed in a star appears in the lower left-hand corner.
