SHEPARD FAIREY – LOTUS ORNAMENT

The work Lotus Ornament created by Shepard Fairey (Obey) in 2019 is a 19-piece limited edition silkscreen print on paper, completed by hand and signed in original by the artist.

In Lotus Ornament Shepard Fairey places at the center of the composition the lotus flower, a symbol of purity and hope, surrounded by a crescent moon adorned with stars. The reference is to the Virgin of Guadalupe, a symbol of purity in Catholicism, who is also depicted resting on a crescent moon.

The lotus flower is a subject featured in many of Shepard Fairey's works and is a plant with a history dating back thousands of years to ancient Egypt and early Buddhism. It is considered a sacred flower because of its ability to be born from mud and bloom in all its glory without being contaminated by the impurities of its environment.

With this HPM (Hand Painted Multiple) measuring 76 x 104 cm, the artist wants to draw the viewer's gaze regardless of their political orientation. This work, unlike many of Shepard Fairey's other works, does not intend to address socio-political issues, but wants to present itself as an image of "beauty and determination emerging from chaos."
