New Mosaics of Ravenna Invasion Guide 07 by Invader is a valuable publication that gathers the interventions carried out by the artist in Ravenna in 2014. The texts, translated into English, are written by Daniele Torcellini, a professor at the Linguistic Academy of Fine Arts in Genoa, in collaboration with Invader.

Invader, an internationally renowned street artist known for his mosaic works inspired by the Space Invaders video game aliens, "invaded" Ravenna on two occasions: first in 2014 and then in 2015. Currently, the city boasts around forty of his works.

New Mosaics of Ravenna Invasion Guide 07 is a true guide that allows enthusiasts to delve into his interventions and locate them throughout the city. Ravenna is synonymous with mosaic technique, hosting eight UNESCO World Heritage monuments known worldwide for the magnificence and brilliance of their mosaics.

The artist Invader drew inspiration from the most iconic subjects of Ravenna's mosaics: from the portrait of Empress Theodora and Emperor Justinian preserved in the Basilica of San Vitale to the doves of the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia.

The juxtaposition of Invader's contemporary mosaics and the ancient golden ones gives rise to a reflection on the relationship between historicized artistic places and today's urban art. Among the pixelated stars that adorn the cover of this publication – inspired by the golden stars of the vault of the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia – street artist Invader has included some stars in the shape of his iconic alien.

The 2017 book belongs to a limited edition of 1500 copies and consists of 131 pages.

INVADER - BIOGRAPHY

Invader, an internationally renowned street artist, was born in 1969 in Paris, the city where he still lives and works. In 1998, after finishing his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts, he began to develop his Space Invaders project, which consists of the creation and posting in public spaces of creatures inspired by the aliens from the Arcade Game Space Invaders. In order to reproduce the pixels of the video game's graphics, Invader uses small ceramic tiles inspired by the ancient mosaic technique. Ravenna, city of mosaics par excellence, is one of the 65 cities that the artist Invader has reached with his urban interventions.

The French street artist has also created Invasion guides, maps and an app to help fans find his works. Invader has exhibited his work in major museums such as MOCA in Los Angeles, the Musée en Herbe in Paris and the HOCA Foundation in Hong Kong.

In 2010, the Wunderkammern gallery collaborated with the artist in the realisation of 'Invasion' in Rome.
